Get Your Website to the Top of the Food Chain [Infographic]

The wild world of web developmentIt’s a jungle out there, in the wild world of web development, and if you could choose wouldn’t you much rather be a panther than an antelope? According to most nature shows, antelopes seem to get the shorter end of the deal; but in order for your website to be top-panther there are a few things that you should know.

The word “jungle” has a dangerous ring to it, and one might be hesitant to jump right into the fray, but you must. Worldwide there are 1.97 billion internet users; your site does matter to the livelihood of your company. If you are not on the web you are going to be like that little antelope that stumbles when running away from its predator (or as we like to say around here S.O.L.)

You have something very desirable and unique to offer to your consumers and clients. You need to have a website that properly displays and effectively promotes your business.

Your website can be: a sales force, support center, informative guide, operational hub or anything that you want it to be. Anything that supports your business, reaches your target audience and converts click-throughs into purchases and clients.

Remember the #1 function of a website is to make your business more efficient and profitable. It should showcase what you excel at, give tangibility to your business (by showing the people behind it) and make it easy to contact you.

3 Website Do’s…

  • Choose the right color scheme – The colors that you pick do make a difference, so put some thought and research into it. “Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions.” ~Pablo Picasso
  • Focus on killer content – Content is king; it greatly increases your visibility and helps immensely with the search engine optimization for your site.
  • Set your navigation up properly – It isn’t a corn maze, make sure that your website is laid out in a way that makes sense and is user friendly, people will click away if they get frustrated; you’ve done this, you know it’s true.

And 3 Website Don’ts…

  • Don’t use the same layout on each page – Create visual interest for your readers on each page, make them want to continue.
  • Don’t place irrelevant ads everywhere – Consumers are already bombarded with ad after endless ad, give them a break on your site and highlight YOUR business, not someone else’s.
  • Don’t overload your site with images – Even though the consumer base is becoming more and more visual, you want to give the eye a spot to go to, a focal point that supports your message.

Your product and your company will be judged by your website, this is not an area to have a frivolous attitude towards. According to the Stanford Web Credibility Project, “75% of web users admit making judgments about the credibility of an organization based on the design of its web site.” So pay attention, otherwise your weak, little antelope-like website might be fed to the panthers, the guys who have put the time and hired the right people to make their websites strong, smart, and attractive to consumers.

In the wild world of web development one of the smartest things a business owner can do is implement the right tools like: content creation, search engine optimization tactics, proper web development and correct visuals so that your business can get to the top of the food chain and stay there.
