Hi everyone,

I got to hear something really special this week, so I decided to forgo my usual video and treat you to a truly sublime way to start your day. Some of you may already know our ace Director of Content, Patience Hurlburt Lawton, and experienced firsthand how good she is at her day job.

Now I’d like to share with you how good she is at her other (probably favorite) job as an über-talented, gigging, recording, singer/musician/songwriter – who’s just released a brand-new single. She describes her music as “acoustically-written, lyrically-driven, full-band-fueled,” while I describe it as just plain awesome. So, please enjoy our own Patience Dee performing “Best Thing.”
Hi everyone,

I got to hear something really special this week, so I decided to forgo my usual video and treat you to a truly sublime way to start your day. Some of you may already know our ace Director of Content, Patience Hurlburt Lawton, and experienced firsthand how good she is at her day job.

1. 1000 lb. Sentence: “We need to stop interrupting what people are interested in and be what people are interested in.” –Craig Davis, former chief creative officer at J Walter hompson

Timeless marketing advice, no matter the platform. But really, really important to bear in mind when marketing online. People have more control now than ever before over what they choose to sit through or read. After all, the next interesting thing is only a click away.

It’s not just that, though. We owe it to our audience to provide engaging, relevant and valuable content. This business isn’t just about making sales, it’s about building relationships. Brands that do a good job at this engender (sometimes fierce) loyalty among clients and are able to make them feel almost like family. And they don’t do that by clumsily demanding attention or being pitchy.

They do it by delivering products and content that are useful. Of course, what constitutes “useful” varies by audience, but valuable content usually needs to be at least one of these: informative, timely, interesting or entertaining. Great content is a powerful way to show customers that you’re thinking about them and that you care.

Sometimes there’s a big divide between coming up with a top-notch content idea and being able to skillfully execute it. Here’s a cute little blog about creating, well, cute little blogs.

2.Win of the Week: OK, we rocked Facebook ads so hard this week that we’re still feeling aftershocks. We were able to increase a client’s Amazon sales by over 550% in just one week by running shrewdly targeted, expertly composed ads on their Facebook business page.

The numbers:
April 18th – 59 Units   /  $4,150.91
April 19th – 410 Units  /  $27,716.95

I’ll say it for both of us: WOW! Need help with your Facebook Ads? Call me.

3. Hot Tip: When we talk about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), many clients immediately jump to the conclusion that we’re about to talk keywords, titles, links and more keywords. But it turns out that search engines are a lot like our human audiences – they want awesome content.

When your content is fresh and engaging enough to attract a readership (and links), search engines know it and start to show your site a little love. The more good content, the more love. Need some killer content ideas? Here’s a power-packed infographic to help you out.

4Event I’d Kill to Attend: Content Marketing World Conference & Expo

Tickets: Click for Pricing.

Why: Billed as “The Largest Content Marketing Event,” this 34-track monster is going to be a veritable three-ring circus of content guru keynotes, compelling breakouts and industry-specific, hand-on labs, not to mention incredible networking opportunities (one at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame).

This event promises to provide attendees with “all the materials you need to take a content marketing strategy back to your team,” along with the knowledge to implement that strategy so you can “grow your business and inspire your audience.” The capacity for learning here is huge, if you’re a quick study and know your way around a conference.

5. 5-Minute Power Snack: Speaking of SEO (again), if you’re running a WordPress site, like we do, and need some help with optimization, you’re in luck! One of best things about running WordPress are the plugins and we’ve created one of our dazzling infographics to break down the two best for improving SEO instantly.

6.Best-of-the-Week Outside Blog: If your only objection to clicking on this blog is that you’re tired of reading, don’t worry – it’s mostly video. 20 small videos, in fact. YouTube marketing is huge and everybody’s doing it (and you should too). Please enjoy this “Small Business Trends” blog: 20 YouTube Video Ideas to Put on Your Small Business’s Channel  (We just happen to know someone who creates outstanding marketing videos and video scripts.)

7. One of the Good Ones: You’ve most likely heard about sex trafficking and are possibly even aware of what a pervasive issue it’s become right here in the U.S. Fact: One-third of the 2.8 million runaways each year in the US are lured into child prostitution or pornography within 48 hours. *Source: National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

StreetLightUSA provides holistic, residential care to girls ages 11-17 who have been victims of sexual trauma with the goal of “helping girls find a new way forward so they can become independent, confident, and successful young women.”

There are so many cool ways for individuals, businesses, churches and schools to get involved with this cause, including buying items for their wish list, volunteering, hosting a fundraiser and, of course, online donations. We are so grateful this organization exists and proud to support it.

8.The Thinker: Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.” – Henry Ford
